Facebook Final

Well, my facebook page didn't do too well.  For my facebook page, I did Redemption Lutheran Church.  This isn't a business yet therefore my page didn't do too well.  My insights are as follows.

My main people that I engaged were women.  I mainly had people around 18-24 which was what I was mainly interested in.  We were mainly interested in attracting younger people which was what exactly happened.

My main post reaches came early on and later around Easter.  I posted something the day after talking about Easter and got a few hits.

My likes mainly came as soon as I put my ad up.  It was hard to run this ad the whole time because I am a young college student without any funding, and we didn't have a building to work out of.

I couldn't post much because we didn't have anything to post to be honest.  We didn't have a web page, a building or anything.  I was waiting for my pastor to get everything all settled and it never happened.  In the fall, I am going to bring this back up and use this facebook page the moment we start getting a place.

Overall, this facebook assignment was good.  We needed to start a church and have a building for this to really take off.  When we get a church building, I feel we will be better off and this facebook page will grow.  I didn't get the feedback I wanted, but somewhat got what I expected.  I should have put more effort into it, but I didn't have much to work with to be honest.  Like I said before, when we get a building, this will take off.

Fort Hood Shooting - Draft

Media and social media plays a huge part in today's society. The news about The Fort Hood shooting wouldn't have spread as fast as it did without today's media with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, these being the major social media contexts. If you pull up Google search and type the letter "f" in, the first thing you see is "fort hood shooting." We all know how Google works with the most popular search coming up first.

The news of the Fort Hood shooting spread like wildfire. The gunman, Spc. Ivan Lopez, open-fired on his unit following a possible altercation between him and his fellow soldiers and then turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.

Social media has been a huge news-spreading movement that has helped spread the news about these happenings throughout anyone that gets on the internet.  According to cnn.com "On Thursday Milley said investigators believed a medical history that indicates an unstable psychiatric or psychological condition may be a "fundamental causal factor," in the shooting." this was the idea on Thursday, when Friday came about, things changed. According to the same website, "an altercation between Spc. Ivan Lopez and his fellow soldiers, rather than a medical condition, may have led to Lopez opening fire."

News of this event spread across social media all day.  The news of the day and the hashtags were all about the families of the wounded or killed and how crazy Lopez was for shooting up a military base.  I was on my Instagram feed and I follow a few military personnel and their photos were all about the Fort Hood shootings.  Hashtags were created to help spread the news about the events as well.  #prayforfoothood was a completely new hashtag that was created on social media to help spread the news.

The people who spread these news stories on facebook were one of their own.  I opened up my Facebook account and looked up the "trending" link on Saturday morning and the "Fort Hood Shooting" was still around the top.  I click the link and decided to take a look at some of the things that were happening on facebook today.  People were spreading news and adding to the stories and coming up with their own ideas about why Lopez decided to do it.

Events like these scare me because I have many friends stationed at military bases across the globe. My best friend is a marine in Okinawa.  I called him earlier today, accidentally woke him up...he wasn't too happy about that, and I was talking to him about what happened and he told me about his roommate.  His roommate tried to hang himself while one of his friends got raped all in the same day.  This freaks me out because of the things that happen in military bases all around the world without us knowing.  If it wasn't for social media, we would never have known about these events in Fort Hood.  Social media is a great news outlet for us because of the ease of access we have to it.  As a college aged kid, I spend a considerable amount of time on social media feeds.  This is where I get most of my news from and am thankful for Facebook and Instagram.

Sustainability

For my part of the program, I decided to focus on energy building and energy saving supplies for our made up city.

For my first idea, I decided to think of a way to use the problem of cars and driving to produce energy. I purposed to create some sort of rotating generator that spins to create energy when driven over by a car or bike.  I know this will build energy because of how the generator will be spun each time someone drives over the wheels that are built into the ground. The generatio

The sustainability will come from the fact everyone will always be driving and using energy, so why not do something about it and use the problem that won't ever be fixed it to our advantage?

This would be what my road would look like, or similar to it. These are actually being pushed down but the concept is completely the same. The bars would be spun instead of pushed down.  With each spin, there would be a battery or generator charged based on how fast the car would be going.

http://www.ecofriend.com/concept-road-ribs-make-your-vehicle-generate-renewable-energy.htmlhttp://www.ecofriend.com/concept-road-ribs-make-your-vehicle-generate-renewable-energy.html
This is how the bars in the above photo are being used which could also be used for my city's roads.

Also, there will be solar panels in our roadways as well.  The solar panels will be able to be driven over and will have energy produced because of the sun beating down on them at all times throughout the day.

This is something that would be similar to what I would want to install into our roads around the city. These would be in addition to our roads that are using the generators

These ideas would be helpful to humans because of how much energy is wasted through driving our cars.  We use our cars more than any other type of transportation when it comes to getting from point A to point B.  We spend so much energy doing this without saving any of the unwanted energy.  The energy that was wasted from driving would be put back into the human environment through these generators.  We would save so much on energy costs because of the fact driving is just not going to ever go away.

When it comes to Apps, we could invent an App that would be used to display how fast your car is going and how much energy is being produced with how fast your car is going.

Connectivity - Auto

There is also the new car that drives itself. There are lasers all around the car that help give the car a 360 degree view of the road.

"The vehicle is equipped with a hidden system of lasers, radars, and cameras that give the car a 360-degree view of the road. All the information is fed to a computer network underneath the trunk, which makes 100 decisions per second."

Most everyone appreciates a sleek looking automobile. Once you get over the physical beauty of the car, the next question is "what is under the hood".

Now the question is, "how does it connect"?
ATT Drive: See the future of connected cars

Pandora launched their radio in cars about 2010. Car companies paired with Pandora to start putting their app in the car so the driver could listen to what they wanted. Pandora now started having ads to boost their revenue from their auto services.

The Nissan LEAF will be the new model for cars. The car is powered 100% by electric and is super compatible with your smartphone. The app for the smartphone is described on the website

"Stay connected to your Nissan LEAF® with an active CARWINGS® [*]subscription. Use the app to check on your battery charge, start a charging session, see your estimated driving range, and even activate the climate control systems."

This furthers the idea of connectivity because we can now basically control our cars from our smartphone without the need to be anywhere near our cars.

Zipcar has introduced an app that can help people unlock their Zipcar cars from their iPhone apps or their Andriod powered app. Zipcar is an app that connects people to Zipcars that can be reserved for use in different parts of the country.

Two interesting ways that we can connect and network with others:

SeeClickFix
Connects communities, media and government to take care of and improve neighborhoods.

"In Dallas, a thoughtful citizen reported a traffic light timing problem on SeeClickFix, and saw an immediate improvement in traffic flow after government officials watching the area took quick action."

In Philadelphia, an engaged citywide advocacy group used SeeClickFix to mobilize citizens to document instances of vehicle idling, leading to new initiatives to help clean the air.

Snow Removal Case Study:
The Challenge: Facing snowy winters and citizens in need of passable roads, Hamilton Township sought a way to more efficiently clear more than 600 lane miles of snow-covered roadways, while also keeping citizens and public officials informed of their progress.

The Solution: GPS tracking devices installed in public works vehicles constantly transmit raw data about their location and activities to a centralized server, where it is organized and stored. Specific information on plowing operations can then be accessed through an online portal.

The Results: Individual residents can access the online tracking portal — dubbed "Snow Pal Sal" by local administrators — directly through the government's website.

Personas for Redemption Lutheran Church

For my facebook page, I am helping one of my pastors from Salt Lake start a church here in sunny Saint George.  We are focused on attracting college students and anyone who has any thought about religion.

For the first person we are trying to attract, we are going after college aged people.
Jordan, who is 19 years old and is in his second year at Dixie State University, is a well rounded kid with no big religious background.  He grew up in Utah and was always around the Mormon church but wasn't quite sure it was for him.  He has always had a thought of joining a church but couldn't decide which was correct for him.  With our chill attitudes on people and our relaxed church environment, Jordan will want to check us out.

Maya, who is 22 years old and a graduate of Dixie State University,  is an ex-mormon girl that was raised LDS but decided to leave the church after school. She is not too into religion, but has heard about this church from her friends and wants to get back into some religion that is in her opinion, more correct.

Yolanda is a 45 year old mom of 3.  Her kids are all in their teens and are little demon children.  They are all raising hell whenever they can and she wants to calm them down.  She decides to go to church after seeing an ad on the local tv station that promotes the calmness of the church.
